Windy MPS Winter Skills!
Originally scheduled for Saturday but postponed due to snow down south, today Jonathan, Fi and I were out with Nottingham University MPS. The clubs annual Winter Skills and Winter Climbing meet with us is always well attended, well organised and a hi-light of our winter calender.
Snow and water ice conditions were good for for teaching winter skills with the strong W-SW winds adding to the winter challenge. With the deep snow and cold windy weather the importance of sharing the trail breaking, pacing, clothing and nutrition within the group was stressed.
The winter climbers had a good day rehearsing basic winter skills and climbing Goat Track Gully a popular Grade 2 with Jonathan in Coire an t-Sneachda.
Apparently the coire was surprisingly sheltered and had steep thick serious flat ice although seemed to lack the thick ice on some of the lower grade ice routes such as Red Gully!
The forecast looks wild for tomorrow!
