Winter Skills weekend...
A busy weekend with the ski area carparks all full but within ten minutes walk from the cars, we had the place to ourselves. It was calm, misty and warmer today but still great conditions for learning winter skills on the firm snow.
It was interesting chatting with Diana, Lizzi and Iain about the last ice age, glaciation and the local geology as we followed old snowdrifts in the gullies and practised using our ice axes.
Lizzi and Iain had persuaded their mum Diana to come on the winter skills weekend and that using an ice axe wasn't necessary going to be a 'Touching the Void' experience.
So far after day one it sounds like everybody had fun and ice axes will now be replacing the trekking poles on the family winter jaunts!
