A dry calm start for the day's Winter Skills with Rick and Chris but by mid-day it had started to snow and by late afternoon it was snowing heavily. As the pair had previously been out on winter and had their own axes and crampons but hadn't done any formal training we went back to basics.
After lunch in some emergency snow shelters we went on a journey on a variety of terrain and snow conditions. We paid particular attention to the fresh build-up of snow and the increased avalanche risk as we avoided certain high risk areas while looking at route choice and safe travel techniques.
Snow cover, depth and the avalanche risk has increased a lot over the past few days and care is now required on most slope aspects and on the ski road this evening!.
