Alan is with us for a couple of days private guiding so we headed in to Sneachda to see what was climbable given the size of some the cornice exits.
There's some HUGE cornices above Hidden Chimney, Jacob's Ladder, Central Gully, The Runnel and Crotched which we avoided in favour of a climb with a easier and safer exit!
Alan fancied a bit of ice so we headed up Red Gully and as it hadn't been climbed for some time it had some really good thick unhacked water ice for a change and gave some excellent sport.
The cornice was large but easily avoidable by traversing left toward the top of Fingers Ridge into the blazing sun and snow plastered plateau.
A great day climbing with Alan and Fi and few folk to be seen. The weather and snow cover is phenomenal yet once away from the ski area the corries and the plateau were almost deserted!
