Annual university club winter skills weekend
Saturday 3rd Feb to Sunday 4th Feb 2018 and our annual Nott's Uni MC winter skills weekend so snowy roads were almost guaranteed!
We've being doing this annually for several decades now and it's very rewarding to now see the second generation of students coming through on our Scottish winter skills courses!!!
Fi and Gavin were teaching the winter walking skills group while Mungo and I were with the winter mountaineers and Jonathan with the winter climbers.
Over the weekend a lot was learnt and great fun in the Cairngorm winter wonderland was had by all including the guides, a few pictures above.
Many thanks to everyone for a fantastic weekend and to work with old friends Fi, Jonathan, Mungo and Gavin a bunch of the top Scottish winter instructors in the UK :-)

Great winters fun on the Edge!
On Sunday, with lots of fresh snow and strong winds resulting in a considerable avalanche risk we avoided the high risk gullies and had a great day climbing a snow plastered Mhearad's Right Edge with some of the Nottingham University MC winter mountaineering team.

Another great winter weekend with Nottingham Mountaineering Club
As has become the norm over recent years the Nottingham University Mountaineering Club weekend was one of extreme contrasts and a real adventure!
We had heavy snow and 100 mph winds on Saturday along with difficult driving conditions and then relative calm, snowball fights, great climbing conditions along with good visibility on Sunday.
I think everyone, instructors and students, on the winter skills, winter mountaineering and winter climbing courses, learned a lot and had fun :-)

Nottingham Uni Mountaineering Club's annual WILD winter weekend with Talisman!
Great to see familiar faces on our now annual winter weekend with Not's University.
The club's name may have changed from the Munro Pineapple and Adventure Societies but apart from that the routines and courses were of a similar format.
Between us the instructors were Fi and Rob with the Winters Skills groups, Jamie and myself with the Winter Mountaineering groups and Jonathan with the Winter Climbing group.
The weather was wild and visibility even at carpark level was almost non existent at times, due to the high winds and driving snow. It was a steep learning curve for many of the students, even those that had been out in winter before, in much more settled conditions!
Despite this we did manage to cover the basics, though in difficult conditions, as can be seen from the mountaineering groups video and photos.
After Saturday's baptism by ice the winter climbers and mountaineers had a more technical day looking at the ropework and belays on Sunday.
Despite higher winds being forecast for Sunday, it turned out a much nicer day with good visibility and lighter winds.
With Fi and Rob the Winter Skills groups headed up to our sheltered spot from Saturday and a had a good day looking at micro navigation techniques and emergency shelters.
Lots more photos on the Facebook Album here and some photos from the students to follow...
