Winter skills and guided winter mountaineering and climbing

There's now loads of deep drifting snow in the mountains and even getting to the hill on the roads each day has been epic.

Fortunately today the path into Coire an t-Sneachda wasn't too bad though there was the odd deep snow drift that James managed to find on the way out!

James has done a bit of rock climbing and is a skier but until yesterday hadn't used an ice axe or crampons so it was back to basic winter skills before our day's guided winter climbing.

Today he was confidently mixed winter climbing in quite blustery icy conditions and quickly picking up all the basic trad and alpine ropework as we belayed and moved alpine style up the rocky ribs while avoiding areas of windslab.

"Best day ever" said James and yet another good winters day climbing in the Cairngorms.
